Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

You are the master of your fate

(within degrees)

Every day, master your fate. By degrees.

So glad to "see" you back. I hope things have improved for you.
Invictus is one of my favorite poems.

Amen, Janie. That is what I'm trying to do. Little by little, day by day. That which does not kill us makes us stronger right?

Bonita...I miss you!!! I'm surfacing. I've been a little out of kilter here lately. But I'm determined that 2010 will be a better year.

I love this poem. I also saw the movie by the same name. And one thing that struck me, as the movie was primarily about Nelson Mandela was that how does someone spend 27 years incarcerated and come out forgiving those who once were his enemies. That's pretty powerful stuff.
